Marine biology is a fascinating field of science that your high school student will love exploring.

The students will learn about the oceans of our planet, the vast number of creatures in them, marine ecology, coral reefs, the geology of the ocean, how islands form and the impact humans have on the oceans.  Students will also learn about the complex interactions that these organisms have with land dwelling animals.

This course has a lab that will have relevant weekly experiments including dissections and the use of microscopes.

 

This course is taught from a creationist point of view. The textbook used is part of the Apologia series, Exploring Creation with Marine Biology.

Students must be capable of 9th-12th grade course work. 

There will be two field trips with this course. The first is to the NOAA/NMFS Sea Turtle Hatchery in Galveston, TX in October. The students will learn about the endangered species of sea turtles and the conservation methods used to save them.

The second field trip will be in the spring to the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi and the beach.

 

The merit badge that can be earned for this class is Oceanography.

All classes will participate in an End-of-Year banquet for friends and family where the students will showcase their projects and give a presentation.
